The team at Plane Driven is happy to show how well their roadable aircraft drives in the real world. With the design goal of 140mph in flight already met, the focus now is to reduce the conversion time between driving and flying.

The latest PD-X configuration has been driven with great success. Even the curious police officers who stopped to query PD-X were pleased with what they saw. Although there was a bit of discussion at the toll booth as to whether PD-X should pay auto or motorcycle fare, motorcycle fees were paid . There were many unexpected thumbs up on the road. PD-X is a beautiful site to see in the driveway at home and soon to be back at the airport for some flight time. Click title “PD-X on the road again” for video.

Plane Driven’s new drive engine configuration sports 100 horsepower with five speed paddle shifting and automatic clutches. Extensive road testing is underway to confirm reliability and performance.Test drivers are reporting that speeds of 75 MPH are easy, with power to spare. New suspension and steering systems are in the design and mockup stage.

PD-X reaches 73 MPH in drive-mode with power to spare

Design and construction continues on the PD-X with new 100 HP system that has taken the vehicle to 73 MPH in drive-mode with power to spare. A new four wheel independent suspension system is in development. The new Twin Pod design mockup has meet or exceed the design goals in extensive flight testing, including cruise speeds up to 140 MPH TAS. Refinement will continue as prototype work and flight testing proceeds.

Plane Driven to begin R&D on the PD-X

After a tremendously encouraging response by the aviation community to the Roadable Sportsman called PD-1 at Oshkosh in 2010, the company of Plane Driven has now entered into further research of the design with a new test version that will be called PD-X.

PD-X will be an evolving and refining design leading to a final design that will be available for sale. Progress reports and flight testing will be available on the website at PlaneDriven.com and you can follow us on Facebook and Twitter. Video clips on YouTube will also be available.
